Getting Here

We understand and appreciate that your journey is just as important as your destination!

Located only 30 minutes by plane from the capital city Lusaka, Royal Zambezi Lodge offers various options for getting here.  Our Reservations team are at hand to assist you with planning your transport options as soon as they have been advised on your itinerary.

By Air

Aptly named Royal Airstrip, our 1.8km tarred airstrip is only a 5-10 minute drive from the lodge and can often be the platform for your first sighting into camp, whether it be a baboon, impala or elephant you are sure to receive a unique welcome to the Lower Zambezi.

To make getting here even more accessible, we offer a RZL FLIGHT (Low Season Rates / High Season Rates) “seat in plane” charter option that has been planned around set times for departure and arrival. Royal Zambezi Lodge has contracted these flights to our various charter partners in Zambia.

TO BOOK PLEASE EMAIL: flights@royalzambezilodge.com or CALL: +260 96 0445247.

Upon landing at Royal Airstrip & staying with Royal Zambezi Lodge, you will be greeted by our guides who will assist you with luggage and accompany you on the short drive to the lodge.

  • From Lusaka – we can either organise a private charter flight for you with our charter partners or book you on our RZL Flights “seat in plane” charter – operated by light aircraft and based on set times. Flights take approximately 30 minutes from Lusaka to Royal Airstrip.
  • From Livingstone – If you are coming to us from the Victoria Falls, you can opt for a direct, private charter from Livingstone to the Royal Airstrip, which will take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. The other option is to fly to Lusaka to connect with a scheduled flight.
  • From Mfuwe – If you are joining us from Mfuwe we can organise a charter flight from Mfuwe airport to the Royal Airstrip, it will take approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.
  • From other destinations – give us a shout, and we can assist and book any transfer you may require to the lodge and other places in Zambia or Southern Africa.

By Boat

Arriving by boat is an elegant way to start your stay at The Royal Zambezi Lodge. We regularly cruise to Gwabi Lodge on the Kafue River to pick up guests and can organise transfers from other camps and other destinations to meet your requirements.

By Road

If you are planning to drive to the lodge, we strongly recommend a 4×4 vehicle for getting here, as the last 70km of the road is extremely rough in places. Another alternative is to drive to Gwabi lodge on the Kafue River, and we can organise a boat transfer for the last 40km of the journey. A great way to start your stay at the lodge. Please see below two maps showing directions, one detailing distances between junctions and the other detailing cumulative distances. Please click HERE for download and printing purposes.
