Since the completion of the Claire Kartagener maternity ward in Mugarameno Village in December 2016, Royal Zambezi Lodge continues to raise awareness of its community projects. The Lodge also works tirelessly to source the funding and support that is necessary to improve both the quantity and quality of the medical facilities available in Chiawa district.

Royal Zambezi Lodge is pleased to announce that the first phase of the construction project for the doctors’ accommodation has commenced. This will enable the Ministry of Health to transfer and position staff here, to assist the resident nurse, Rosemary and declare it as an official medical post. An additional project has been approved to build accommodation for medical interns, who will be an invaluable resource to the community clinic. The sourcing of funding for these projects is ongoing, however, these phases would not be possible without the generosity and kindness of the various donors that have contributed and partnered with us to make these worthy ventures a reality.

One of the principal principal project partners of the Maternity Clinic, Claire Kartagener, recently paid her first visit to the clinic and below she shares her heartfelt reaction;

“ Arriving in Mugarameno and pulling up to the maternity ward that bears my name, I was overcome with emotion. The entire experience – touring the facility, meeting Rosemary, and especially meeting Claire (the first female born at the maternity ward and my namesake) – was surreal. I’m incredibly happy that the women from the surrounding villages have a safe and sanitary place to deliver their children and I’m filled with pride that my name is affiliated with such an inspired project. “
