Getting Here

We understand and appreciate that your journey is just as important as your destination!

Located only 30 minutes by plane from the capital city Lusaka, Royal Zambezi Lodge offers various options for getting here.  Our Reservations team are at hand to assist you with planning your transport options as soon as they have been advised on your itinerary.

By Air

Aptly named the Royal Airstrip, our private, tarred runway is just a 5–10-minute drive from the lodge. From the moment you land, your adventure begins—whether it’s a playful baboon, graceful impala, or a majestic elephant, you’ll be welcomed by the enchanting sights of the Lower Zambezi.

Flying over the Zambezi Valley is an unforgettable experience. Guests staying at Royal Zambezi Lodge can conveniently book a seat-in-plane transfer flight alongside their accommodation for:

  • $241 per person, one-way: Lusaka (KKIA) – Royal Airstrip
  • $225 per person, one-way: Royal Airstrip – Lusaka (KKIA)

The fare for both route options includes all Airport and regulatory charges (Passenger Departure Taxes, Safety/Security fees, etc.). (Airport and Regulatory Fees are subject to change without notice.)

These flights are managed and operated by our partner, Royal Air Charters, based in Lusaka, ensuring a seamless journey between Lusaka and Royal Zambezi Lodge.

Important Luggage Guidelines

Enjoy the convenience of lightweight travel with our strict but manageable guidelines. Light aircraft in Zambia operate under strict luggage policies:

  • Check-In Luggage: Maximum 15 kilograms (33 pounds) in soft bags without hard frames.
  • Hand Luggage: Up to 5 kilograms (11 pounds) in soft bags.

Please confirm these requirements when booking. Kindly note that Royal Zambezi Lodge cannot take responsibility for luggage exceeding the prescribed limits or not meeting airline policies.

By Boat

Arriving by boat is an elegant way to start your stay at The Royal Zambezi Lodge. We regularly cruise to Gwabi Lodge on the Kafue River to pick up guests and can organise transfers from other camps and other destinations to meet your requirements.

By Road

If you are planning to drive to the lodge, we strongly recommend a 4×4 vehicle for getting here, as the last 70km of the road is extremely rough in places. Another alternative is to drive to Gwabi lodge on the Kafue River, and we can organise a boat transfer for the last 40km of the journey. A great way to start your stay at the lodge. Please see below two maps showing directions, one detailing distances between junctions and the other detailing cumulative distances. Please click HERE for download and printing purposes.
